Overview of 2011-12

The approach DPS and DCTA are taking to involve teachers and principals in every step of LEAP development is continuing into the 2011-12 school year.

94% of DPS schools (based on mid-May 2011 teacher vote) are participating in the LEAP pilot this year. Teachers in pilot schools have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the LEAP system as well as provide essential input to inform improvements and help shape the new system for full implementation in 2012-13.

For the 2011-12 LEAP pilot, this means:

  • Teachers will have the opportunity to dive into the DPS Framework for Effective Teaching and experience observation and feedback from both principals and Peer Observers as well as receive data from student surveys of teaching performance. Teachers can use this feedback to immediately improve their practice and improve results with the students in their classrooms.
  • Principals and Peer Observers will have a year to learn and train on the Framework and LEAP together and become inter-rater reliable before LEAP is fully implemented.
  • All Professional Growth Planning and professional development supports are aligned to the DPS Framework for Effective Teaching.
  • ProComp teachers who pilot the LEAP system next year will receive CPE credit for a satisfactory evaluation, if it is their regular evaluation year.
