Student Perception
Students Know When They Have A Great Teacher...
The student perception component of LEAP incorporates student voice regarding their teachers' classroom and practice. Teachers can use their student perception data for reflection and to guide improvements in their practice.
The Student Perception Survey component of LEAP was initially piloted in 16 DPS schools during the spring of 2011 using research-based surveys. Teacher and principal feedback has guided extensive changes to this measure of LEAP for the 2011-12 LEAP pilot.
2011-12 will be another pilot learning year for the Student Perception Survey. Here’s what to expect:
- Two survey administration rounds
- Round 1: September 26 – October 14, 2011
*Excludes ECE and K
- Round 2: February 22 - March 2, 2012
*Required for middle and high schools, opt-in for elementary, K-8, and ECE
- Extensive changes to the survey
- Refinements to support English language learners, special education students, and students in ECE-2nd grade
- 9 survey questions for ECE-2nd grade students, 21 questions for 3rd-5th grade students, and 22 questions for secondary students
- Paper format only
- Survey administration aligned with the DPS assessment administration process
- Designated Survey SAL at each LEAP pilot school
- Survey measures map to the DPS Framework for Effective Teaching
- Anonymous, aggregate student responses available to teachers and principals via Teacher Portal and Principal Portal approximately 1 month after each SPS administration
We look forward to hearing more teacher feedback during the 2011-12 pilot and will continue to adapt this component of LEAP and ensure that it is a meaningful way for teachers to reflect, grow in their teaching practice, and increase student achievement.
