Student Outcomes

All Students are Capable of Learning and Growing

This component of LEAP is still in development and will not be part of the 2011-12 LEAP pilot.

When taken into account with other measures of teacher performance, looking at student outcomes is a way to measure the direct impact of a teacher on student achievement.  Student outcomes provide a full picture of the learning that results from teacher actions over the course of a year.

When fully developed, Student Outcomes will comprise 50% of a teacher's evaluation. We will be using multiple measures of student performance data rather than a single data source and are committed to using, in as many instances as possible, assessments that are already being used to inform instructional practice.

As we continue to develop the Student Outcomes aspect of LEAP, we are considering the following criteria identified by the Student Outcomes Design Team:

  1. Multiple sources of data
  2. Formative and summative measures
  3. Alignment to standards, scope, and sequence
  4. Increased emphasis on objective measures
  5. English and Spanish options
  6. School and team accountability
  7. Transparent formula

The Design Team also established multiple buckets, or categories, of assessments. The assessments within each category serve a different purpose and meet established criteria. Note that the categories, and their respective weights, will vary based on the type of educator. These buckets are summarized here:

The state of Colorado and the Common Core State Standards assessment consortia are currently working on building out assessments that will support us in this work moving forward. DPS has representation on the State Council for Educator Effectiveness and is actively engaged in conversations to align this work to the state recommendations.

Please continue to check back often. We will post more information on Student Outcomes as it becomes available.
