Professionalism
A Teacher's Contributions to Their Team and School
The Professionalism component of LEAP is often referred to as the "off-stage" portion of the Framework for Effective Teaching because it encompasses the components of effective teaching that often happen outside of the classroom instruction environment.
The design team has recommended that this portion of the Framework remain simple and support teacher reflection and conversations of practice. The Professionalism Domain includes four Expectations:
- Essential Knowledge of Students and Use of Data
- Effective Collaboration and Engagement
- Thoughtful Reflection, Learning, and Development
- Masterful Teacher Leadership*
* This Expectation and its correlating Indicator are ONLY triggered when a teacher (1) is in a "formal" teacher leadership role in the building, or (2) would like to take on more teacher leadership responsibilities and is requesting feedback

The Professionalism component of LEAP will be introduced during end-of-year conversations between principals and teachers in April/May 2012. Ratings on Professionalism will NOT be given this pilot year. Teachers will have the opportunity to reflect on their areas of strength and growth and they will also receive feedback from their principal on these aspects of teaching.
The LEAP team will be asking for feedback on this measure of LEAP in May and we encourage all pilot teachers and principals to complete the survey so any necessary improvements can be incorporated prior to next year's pilot.
